TAKE UP THAT GAUNTLET, HAROLD
THIS KEPT HAROLD FORD OUT OF DC LAST YEAR WHEN THE FEDERAL BUDGET CAME UP FOR A VOTE
"9th District U.S. Rep. Harold Ford Jr., one of two Democratic candidates for the Senate, threw down the gauntlet this week to “all” his opponents, challenging them to “declare publicly how they would vote on the federal budget bill before Congress.”
Ford’s challenge stands in some contrast to his position last spring when his only declared Democratic rival, state Senator Rosalind Kurita of Clarksville, sharply criticized the congressman for not being on hand to vote on a prior budget measure favored by the Bush administration.
At the time of that budget vote, Rep. Ford was on a campaign swing through Tennessee and was attending state House Speaker Jimmy Naifeh’s annual “Coon Supper” in Covington.
In the news release which conveyed his current challenge, the congressman took the administration’s latest budget proposal to task on several grounds – including cuts in Medicaid, in educational support funds, and in food stamps..."
Rep. Ford is engaging in triangulation again. It would be worth something if he were good at it.
Before he throws out challenges to his opponents for that Senate seat, I'd like to recommend that he get his own house in order. Like explaining why he was conveniently absent from voting on the Federal Budget last year because he was slurping down a plate of racoon at Jimmy Naifeh's "Coon Supper".
As I said before, no self-respecting African-American goes to any event that makes a reference to "coon"; especially if they know their history of African-Americans and racial epithets. Additionally, I'd like to know how he feels about his good friend, Don Imus, refusing to refer to African-Americans as African-Americans. To me, that's saying the I-Man is looking for a way to use the N-word and not get penalized by the FCC.
Or challenged on it by the representative of Memphis' 9th District. So, Rep. Ford,
pick up that gauntlet and get your own house in order before you start challenging your opponents to clean their houses. You're not ready to take that licking and keep on tickin' like Timex when you don't.

This Kurita should be careful about throwing stones in glasshouses.
She's got no business talking a missed vote up.
State Senator Kurita missed this years Budget Appropriations vote, which included all appropriations for TennCare, the state's Medcaid program. (Senate Bill No. 2315 is the State Budget Appropriations for FY 2004-2005 and 2005-2006.) 05/27/05
Hi,
Although I'm in Congressman Ford's corner most of the time, I thought your post was cute and funny. I actually think he was in your state recently----not sure.

Jayla:
Glad you came over to visit the blog. I don't think the Congressman knows that when I go after him as I do, I only do it because he has so much promise and he compromises it when he fails to not take principled stands. I wish he'd get enough courage to take a stand because it's the right thing to do, and not because the wind is blowing in that direction.
Thanks for visiting and keep up the support.
To insist the use of the term "African-American" is nothing more than political correctness. Those pushing it are obviously not aware of the conditions for being a U.S. citizen. According to the DAR Handbook for Citizenship:
"THE OATH OF AMERICAN CITIZENSHIP (Taken when naturalized)
Once approved for citizenship, applicants are required to take the following oath:
“I hereby declare, on oath, that I absolutely and entirely renounce and abjure all allegiance and fidelity to any foreign prince, potentate, state, or sovereignty of whom or which I have heretofore been a subject or citizen; that I will support and defend the Constitution and laws of the United States of America against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I will bear arms on behalf of the United States when required by law; that I will perform noncombatant service in the Armed Forces of the United States when required by the law; that I will perform work of national importance under civilian direction when required by the law; and that I take this obligation freely without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; so help me God. In acknowledgement whereof I have hereunto affixed my signature.”
This Oath of Citizenship you take is a solemn statement that you call upon God to witness, that you absolutely give up of your own free will your citizenship in any other country and your allegiance to any foreign ruler whose subject you have been. You promise on your honor that you will support and defend the Constitution and laws of the United States against all enemies. You do this of your own free will, keeping back nothing in your mind.
If you take this Oath with the intention to deceive, you are a traitor to the country you have adopted.
If you take this oath in true faith, you are a true citizen of the United States of America. You are not an Italian-American. You are not a Spanish-American. You are not a German-American, nor any other kind of a hyphenated American. YOU ARE AN AMERICAN.
There is no prouder title than “Citizen of the United States of America.” It is now yours. YOU ARE AN AMERICAN."
